Presbyterian Support Central is a non profit, care organisation providing quality residential accommodation for the elderly in the western and southern regions of the North Island.  Chalmers Home has 40 resthome beds and 34 hospital beds following the upgrade work.  Prior to the upgrade there were 40 resthome and 22 hospital beds.  In 1997 the existing hospital was extended to provide 13 new single bedrooms, 3 double rooms and 1 visitors’ room, a large lounge, additional bath, shower and toilet, storage and service facilities.  A new entry was created with a link to the existing resthome.  Seating areas were formed with access and views to a landscaped internal courtyard.  In 1999 the hospital nurses station and office accommodation were upgraded.  The laundry was extended and upgraded in accordance with current infection control requirements.  All work has been carried out in accordance with current fire design requirements, including a review and upgrade of the whole complex.
