Shearer Gibbs House

Comprising a traditional family home brief, the design solution evolved primarily from the need to capture the view to the sea whilst achieving a degree of privacy and separation from the same direction.
This led to the raising of the ground floor level to approximately 1.2m above existing ground level and then lifting adjacent lawn and garden levels to meet a large timber deck. This provided the main living spaces with an expansive connection to the north and outdoor living areas coupled with an elevation above street vehicle and pedestrian level.
Other design features include an inviting hardwood ramp and cantilevered canopy to the front door, timber screen to give privacy to master suite, a palette of naturally aging materials, and the ability to grow the structure to the south as family expansion requires.
