Walsh Kitchen
NZIA Judge: “A fine example of the beneficial effects of good architecture.”
Although this could be considered a small residential renovation project, it has significantly altered the perception of what an ‘architect’ could do for a client and altered a client’s perception of their existing home.
The living areas of the existing 1980’s brick veneer spec home lacked good circulation. The kitchen location was a bottleneck that denied any connection to the outdoors.
The proposed concept explored the reinterpretation of this existing open plan space by removing the bottleneck in the layout and opening the backdrop wall to provide access both visually and physically to a landscaped courtyard.
The result; a new linear form kitchen (with back lit graphic artwork by client), an outdoor all weather timber BBQ/spa/family area; and most importantly, happy clients!
