The brief for this refurbishment project was to convert and clean up pocket like spaces into open plan living areas with maximised exposure to expansive views.
The house itself is perched high overlooking Port Taranaki, with panoramic coastal views. And whilst the previous layout didn’t capitalise on this positioning, Murali Bhaskar’s design solution managed to capture the essence of the space, and developed an open plan living/sleeping space for the home owners to enjoy, entertain and rest in.
The main bedroom, previously with no views to the north, was extended to capture some of the coastal views on offer. It now opens into the living space through a sliding wall, offering flexibility of space division and allowing the owners to open the area up as required.
Joinery and furniture design were key elements in the finished architecture.
