Team Architects

The Westland Recreation Centre is the sports and recreation hub of Greymouth and wider region. It has swimming pools, hydroslides, spa, sauna, gym, group fitness classes, sports stadium for multi sporting codes, an activity/meeting room and much more.
BOON Ltd were the main architects of the project, where the design called for a new gym sports stadium and fitness centre to be incorporated and connected to the existing aquatic centre facilities. Amenities such as a café space, break-out space and toilet and changing room facilities all needed to be incorporated into the 2383m2 site.
Relating the design back to the miners heritage of the region was one of the design stipulations, as well as identification with the West Coast region. This can be seen with the geographic thumb print of the contours of the West Coast region which is a reoccurring theme throughout the facility. 
The Westland Recreation Centre opened its doors in August 2016 to a rapturous community who were extremely proud of their new sport and leisure facility, a credit to the Grey District Council and region.
